Where can I apply for my first credit card?

first credit card

I’ve never had a credit card because my mom has always told me that they just cause problems. But now that I’m looking for a house, there is NO way I can get away with having no credit in my history. How can I get my first credit card?
I actually tried applying for a Capital One card a few months ago. They denied my application because I had no credit whatsoever, but how am I supposed to gain credit if I’m not accepted?

Try getting a department store credit card or a gas card. They normally will give credit to those that have never had one before. Also check with your local bank. If you have had a checking and savings account with them for a long period of time they are more likely to extend credit to you as you have an established relationship.

  2. capitol one.

  3. You can apply at credit unions(DCU, Pentagon Credit union or WAMU etc.).
Anyway buying a house on credit card is just not posiible

  4. Store cards are a good place to begin to establish credit, but be responsible about it. Do not spend you entire limit in one shot. Make small purchases once in a while and pay off the balance every month. After doing this for about 6-8 months, you have developed a spending and payment history that can be reveiwed by other lenders. If you are showing a satisfactory pattern you be more sucessful in applying for a VISa or MC.

  5. You can apply anywhere–the thing about is that you need to watch those magical numbers. If it says “0% APR”, you need to make sure that if you miss ONE payment, or pay one payment late, that the APR doesn’t jump to something horrible like 29.99%; it sounds horrific, but it happens all the time & all it takes is to miss it one time.

  6. Try this place. There is no credit check. You are guaranteed acceptance. It reports to all 3 credit agencies. The limit starts out low, but gets bigger with on time payments. That way you can’t build up too much debt before you buy a house.

  7. not sure, if you have time here’s a lot of types of cards and more:
if it helps please remember me :-) good luck!
