Has anyone ever canceled a first premier credit card right after you applied for it?

first credit card

My 15 year old daughter applied for a first premier credit card online, and was accepted. This made me very upset because the card is in my name. I called the next day to cancel and the woman said to call back tomorrow because the application is in the middle of prossesing so she can’t do anything yet. Has anyone had any experience with this company? If so, did you have any problems canceling without any fees? I have read nothing but BAD about this bank so I am very worried.

  1. I doubt that your daughter had the necessary information to complete the application. First Premiere will most likely send you a letter requesting further infomation. Simply do not reply to the letter & the account will not be opened.

Personally, I would contact FP again & ask to speak to the Customer service rep’s supervisor who should be able to assist you NOW and stop the process before it gets any further along.

  2. I got a card from them to re-establish my credit. I have had no problems with them. However because this is a card to re-establish (as for people with bad credit) they approve everyone that is in your case.
They probably won’t let you cancel just because it seems that that is the company they are and it seems to me they use overseas operators which we all know is great….
But like I said, I have had no problems. I just watch them and when the annual fee comes up every year I pay it.
I have a feeling the people that write the bad reviews are the one’s that are overdrawing there cards.
However, be careful because I know Best Buy tries to get you to get their credit card and in-turn it is from these people.
Good luck in getting it cancelled though!!

I agree with what the person that posted after me but realize if you just cut it up there still going to charge u that annual fee unlike other cards that don’t have annual fees!!

Oh and if they have already posted it on your credit report and you close it that is going to drop your score….

  3. once they mail it to you cut the card up. if you don’t activate the card they can’t bill you anything. just call and make sure when u get it that they close the account.

  4. Technically, your daughter is a minor. Also, you did not apply for the card, technically “identity theft” took place here, with someone applying for a credit card in your name, using your information, who was NOT you. Therefore fraud has been committed, however, by a minor. This is a rather slippery slope. If I were you, I MIGHT just pay the fee, but ONLY if I really couldn’t cancel the card at all (ie. the bank / company refuse to comply, give you a hard time). Also, you need to speak with your daugher immediately about why what she did was inappropriate. Maybe, you could have her somehow pay the fee, if only by working off the debt thru household chores and the like. This will serve a double-purpose, first teaching her NOT to sign up for things in other people’s names online, and second, that debts must be paid - a lesson which will come in handy for her when she eventually gets her own credit card someday in her own name.

Hope this helps you - good luck.
