Has anyone else had trouble cancelling a Sears Credit Card?
My boyfriend has called twice to cancel and he still has it. They will not cancel and keeps going on and on till he gives up. Reminds me of that guy that taped a rep with AOL when he tried to cancel that.

Yes, Sears has been known to do this. If he dosent have a balance, he can just cut up the card and have a good tradeline on his credit report if theres no balance.
what tape was that with the aol people? have a link?
also, remember that closing accounts impacts your FICO score negatively. If hes had credit with Sears for longer than a year, closing it will reduce his average credit sginificantly-and this affects scores also. Just cut up the card and forget about it. Your credit will be the more healthier
I always suggest writting a letter or faxing in a cancellation. Keeping good records is just good business. I assume he has a zero balance. If so, he needs to cut the card in half and return to Sears with a letter.
I agree with the above - send a letter of cancellation.
I just stop being nice and tell them that they will terminate my card and that is that. I don’t even let them say another thing. I just state again, my account with Sears is now closed and you need to process the cancellation. Period.
I can’t understand how they hire people to do those jobs. I’ve learned this dealing with scam “business directory listing” companies. “I am not interested in pursuing business with your company and you will end all attempts at communication with me. Any account is now closed.”
Oh, also ask to speak with someone’s supervisor.
