Does merely applying for a credit card affect your credit?
I know that depending on the situation, cancelling credit cards can negatively affect your personal credit, and other things like that. I’m wondering if merely applying to see if you get approved for a card, and then not activating it can negatively affect your credit.
1. When you apply for a credit card, the credit card company checks your credit report. That lowers your credit score immediately, whether or not you are approved, and whether or not you activate the card.
2. The activation process is to verify that the physical card was delivered to the correct person. The account is opened before the card is sent. The account goes on your credit report whether or not you activate the card. Also, any annual fee may apply even if you do not activate the card. If you do not want the account, you must cancel/close it, not just toss the card.
Yes, it possibly can. When you apply for credit, it can slightly lower your score with each credit inquiry. So limit the number of applications you are filling out.
Whether you activate the card or not, since you are approved it will be on your credit report.
yes it does- but not by much unless you are going for a lot of cards all at once.
