do you ever review your credit card and bank statements when they arrive and have found?
strange things on there? what did you find and how did you correct that.
Recently I found that for two months now AT&T without asking me changed me from dial-up to dsl and charged my credit card more per month.
Recently I noticed and had to correct a late fee on my credit card of $25 because my payment arrived late because the post office was closed during the New Year.
And I noticed I was overcharged $70 on a pair of boots that I bought on deferred billing.
Can you imagine how much money we could save if we were alert to these things on our statements.
I could never trust putting my banking online because what happens if my monitor goes down, my pc dies, the account gets broken into, or I can’t use the account anymore. I prefer the phone and paperwork. If I need it on a cd I can scan it on.

You are wise to go over your statement. I go over mine with a fine tooth comb every month.
I, too, have found (and had corrected) many errors.
All of those things you mentioned is why I have been doing my banking and bill paying on line for three years now. I can check my bank statement, charges, and make sure I am charged correctly on bills, groceries etc. Never have a problem.
I call every morning for my bank and my credit card. We do a lot of stuff on our credit card. I have found a few weird things. They once tried to charge me twice for checks. I have found though they are usually very glad to fix the mistakes.
I try to look over my statement when it comes in.
Thank Goodness I have been lucky not to had no mistakes.
Not just bank statements! Try checking over your next grocery store receipt!! You can find at least one error on it about 75% of the time!
* a sale item goes through at regular price
* tax charged on non tax items
* wrong produce codes used
* coupons not deducted
* bonus air miles not included
It’s shocking how often it happens!
My husband (who hasn’t got an ipod and wouldn’t know how to use one) found charges on his bill for itunes. He canceled the card and they took off the charges.
This is exactly why I bank on line - I can check my statements daily if I chose to - and can contact the card company the minute something is incorrect. Hope this helps! CJ
After supposedly getting a deal for Direct T.V to be a customer, paying the monthly price for six months, we were given a bill for three times the amount and told to pay or we’d be cut off.
I had all the receipts and the contract, after not letting them intimidate me, surprisingly, they apologized and sent me a free set up for a DVD digital recorder and all the goodies that came with it. It totaled about $300.00 and, my payment went back down.
My spouse sits down on the third of every month and diligently makes out the bills and looks everything over almost with a compulsion. Whoa to those that try to cross her. I have seen her almost go over the counter on some clerks that have given her a bad time.
She can make the Eagle on a dollar squeal.
yes i do, that’s why i changed banks last month, they said i was over drawn $25.00 when i knew good well i wasn’t, they screwed up my bank account 3 times, then tryed to blame it on the computer, so i closed my account’s and went some where else,
We wrtie down every thing we charge and compare it to the statement. We found a scam that was charging us $9.95 for something that didn’t exist. We got the charges removed from the bill (twice in one month and once the next) and the credit card company told us that small amounts like that are often not noticed and that scam artists makes millions by counting on that fact. Keep track, folks! It’s your money!
When I retired three years ago, I paid off all my credit cards, and do not use them except to book reservations…..I had similar problems, as you mentioned….One ordeal that most don’t pay attention to is “insurance” on your unpaid balance..They will call you and offer insurance, and offer to send you a form to sign…One would assume, that unless you sign the form, it is not going to happen…If you agree to let them send you the form, you are agreeing to pay for the insurance…It took me two months of battling with them to get the insurance canceled, and get a credit reinstating the two months I paid for insurance, I did not want….I never signed a form, and to get rid of the man on the phone, I told him to send the info to me…..I started getting billed the next month, and had not signed up…..It is always prudent to be aware….
yes i put all all of my charges in an envelop and when i get my bill i mark off the charges and throw away the paid receipts and write a check for the FULL BALANCE due and i am done for the month— i have never had a problem with discover in ove 20 years!!!
I do my banking online, and check my balance daily; I use my debit card and those charges are viewable literally within seconds of a purchase, so it’s easy to track. I don’t use a credit card except for the occasional car rental, hotel room, or airline ticket (very rare for me), and those get paid off IMMEDIATELY when I return from my trip. I do that electronically as well, so that I may actually have a credit on my account for a few days until the billing cycle goes through, at which point my balance is zero! No fees, late fees, interest, etc.
I have onlly one credit card and I use it so rarely, though I watch to see that the activity that occurs is real and mine. Use it mostly for trips and hotels when I do. Banking I pull up online and check it three to four times a week. I watch all my utility bills closely as that is a major amount of cost in my home.
What you described is EXACTLY why I have online access to my bank account and do NOT get paper through the mail….I check my accounts DAILY
