I am trying to get a credit card to start my credit, but so far I hve been denied by Capital One and Chase (Master Card.) I am a full time college student and I don’t have a job on the books. I applied for student cards, the ones that required little or bad credit, but I was denied. I was told that they denied me because I don’t have enough credit, according to a national credit report. But, I don’t know how I am going to build credit if I can’t get a credit card! If anyone knoes of a credit company that will give ma a card, please let me know!

I have really good credit and have paid off all credit cards as I use them. Now, I have a large purchase I want to make. If I apply for a card and get approved online, it will take 7-10 days to get the card. Can I somehow use the card without physically having the card in my possession?

If you had to name a credit card that was the hardest to get (required a very high credit score), what credit card would you name?

I’ve had two credit card companies cancel their cards with me because I had not used their cards in years, how will this affect my credit score? Do they let the major credit bureaus know why it was canceled?

My account was closed by the bank due to number of credit cards I have and high balance. I will be able to close all in 6 months. Can other banks close my credit card accounts as well? What is the best way to handle it?
Thanks for the answers but my problem is:
I have one card which was closed by the bank and limit on one other were reduced. I am afraid that this will create a “domino effect” and all other banks will start to close my accounts. How possible is this? Another question is: how bad will the effect of a closed account by the creditor will be on my credit history?
Thanks guys for your answers

I got a new credit card in the mail through an airline. I didn’t know I was applying for a card, I thought I was joining the frequent flyer club.
I have not activated the card. I thought about keeping it in a drawer for emergencies, but the interest is outrageous, so I want to cancel it. If I call to cancel, will that show up on my report as a closed credit card account, or would it not show up at all because I never activated or used the card?
Earlier this year, I paid off all of my credit cards and have not had an active card for 5 years. I recently got a new card with ample credit and a decent rate. Because I’m a recovering spend-a-holic. I’m fearful of having too much credit available.
To answer your question Laissez-Faire Guy, I, too agree that the activation is a scam. When I activated my other card, it was an automated process, then they patch you to a “customer service person” who wants you to buy additional services. It was hilarious b/c he was foreign and reading a script. After I kept saying no, he read the end of his script so fast, he sounded like a disclaimer in a car commercial.

Can you please include the types of cards that a 19- year- old can get. What I mean is, some credit cards are difficult to receive based on age etc. I have a credit card and I dont like that company and I am about to actually close the account, but I want another credit card..
